Local Mission Partners

Do not seek honor and prestige, but like Jesus be ready to serve others.                 (referencing: Matthew 20:20-28)

Adopt-A-School - Citrus Avenue Elementary School
This BPC local mission is partnering with the teachers and students of Citrus Avenue Elementary School.  The ministry is centered on giving hope to children by showing them God’s unconditional love and guiding them into becoming whole persons socially, intellectually and spiritually.  Teacher’s and their BPC Teacher Coordinator will discern the needs and share the joys in the classroom.  For more information, email pamwear3@att.net.

BPC Gives Blood
Barely a fraction of folks who can give blood actually do. Virtually all of us will face a time when we will need blood. BPC is partnering with Blood Source for a quarterly drive to serve those in need. For more:  satb80@gmail.com

Habitat for Humanity of Butte County
The goal of this ecumenical housing ministry is to eliminate poverty housing in Butte County, one house at a time by partnering with future homeowners and engaging broad community support. For more: www.buttehabitat.org.

Jesus Center
Jesus Center offers hospitality in the name of Jesus to the poor in our community.  The Jesus Center began 27 years ago when a group of ladies served soup from crock pots out of the back of a thrift store on Park Avenue. Now, the Jesus Center provides warm, nutritious food in the form of two meals a day, six days a week.  The Sabbath House provides emergency shelter for women and children, and seeks to restore women and children to spiritual, physical, and emotional wellness. For additional information, visit www.jesuscenter.org.

Run For Food
Run for Food (a 5K run/walk on Thanksgiving) began in 2006 when a group of Chico families and businesses saw the amazing impact the Jesus Center has on providing food and services to those in need in Chico.  Aware that the Jesus Center is funded solely by community support, they came together to organize the Thanksgiving Day run/walk with all proceeds benefiting the Jesus Center. Since its inception, the event has continued to grow attracting nearly 2,000 participants and has helped to support the Sabbath House Shelter for women and children, and provide for the almost 100,000 meals the Jesus Center will serve the less fortunate.  For additional information, visit www.runforfood.com.

Northern California Prison  Ministry
This ministry brings the hope of Jesus Christ to over 12,000 men in the Susanville California Correctional Center and High Desert State Prison. The men serving as fire fighters at the Salt Creek Fire Camp near Paskenta are also served by the ministry.   The Celebrate Recovery Program begins with “The Purpose Driven Life” and is changing lives by offering life skills and a new sense of self that only a personal relationship with Jesus Christ can give. For more information, email coneyconstruction@gmail.com.

Salvation Army
The Salvation Army provides a variety of assistance programs to the needy here in Chico and around the world.  BPC has partnered with the local Salvation Army for many years to prepare and serve Sunday evening dinners to those in need of a warm meal.  For more information, email g.grimm@sbcglobal.net

Senior Home Maintenance
The Senior Home Maintenance local mission is performed by 30+ volunteers who perform small home repairs (electrical, plumbing, carpentry), roof and gutter cleaning, and yard cleanup (pruning, leaves) to seniors and those in need on periodic Saturday mornings during the year.  A typical time commitment for a volunteer would be 3-5 Saturday mornings usually between October and May. tythresher@comcast.net

Young Life and Young Lives
Young Life is an outreach ministry to adolescents in Junior High, and High School who are unchurched and disinterested in Christ.  We have a separate ministry to Teen Moms called Young Lives.  The approach is similar to the approach Jesus took; we build relationships with adolescents and share with them our life and who Jesus is in terms they can understand and appreciate.  We have weekly “Club” meetings, Campaigners (Bible Study), seasonal Camps, and a dozen or so kids even come to Church each week with their Young Life leader.  Our volunteer leaders spent 6,300 hours with adolescents last school year.  Teens are looking to belong and be a part of something larger than themselves and once they see this community of people loving one another they long to be a part of it.  For more information, email Chicoareayl@yahoo.com.

InterVarsity  and InterVarsity International Student Ministries (ISM)
InterVarsity Christian Fellowship is an evangelical campus mission serving more than 32,000 students and faculty on more than 550 college and university campuses nationwide. Incorporated in 1941, InterVarsity has a rich tradition of campus witness, thoughtful discipleship, and a concern for world missions.  ISM exists to build an international community on the college campus, bringing together students from around the world and here in the U.S. It values diversity and friendship and promotes a posture of learning and respecting others’ cultures and backgrounds.  For more information, email kimbachoke@gmail.com.

Love Chico
Love Chico is a bout Chico-area churches coming together to serve our community. Projects range from litter removal and visitation at assisted living facilities, to beautification projects around non-profits, parks and schools . . . and everything in between! Small groups and families are encouraged to create a project of their own design and find a way to serve in their own unique way.  For more information, visit www.lovechico.org

Orchard Church
The vision of the Orchard Church is to grow passionate followers of Jesus, teaching them to love God and love others.  The Orchard Church began in 2002 with a dream to build a church that serves its community in practical ways, demonstrating the amazingly practical love of God.  Today, we serve over 400 people per week, leading them in worship, presenting the hope of Christ, equipping them with the truth of recovery and redemption and equipping children and youth with opportunity to grow to be successful, Godly men and women.  For more information, email info@orchardchurch.com
