BPC Haiti relief efforts underway
BPC has had a long standing mission partnership with the US Foundation for the Children of Haiti. In response to the devastating earthquake in January, we are developing tangible ways for our members and friends in the community to provide assistance. Kellie Lyons, a registered nurse and BPC member, was able to work at Hope Hospital soon after the quake hit. From March 19-29th, a medical team traveled to Haiti to work at the hospital or in its outreach clinics to the community. Team members that traveled as a part of Team One were physical therapists Mike Hernandez and Monica Schwartz, registered nurses Jo Eandi, Ann Dickman, and Kathryn Colburn Magnusson, and team leader Liz Young. Currently, Haiti Team Two (April 1-11), a second medical team led by respiratory therapist Carly Kuersten and physician Ardavan Afrasiabi traveled to Haiti in April to work at the hospital. The teams also took supplies for the hospital, orphanage, and school.

We are hoping to organize more teams to meet medical and general needs in the future. Please pray for our team members and for the people they will be serving. If you would like to contribute to this effort financially, you may send a check to BPC with Haiti Mission written on the memo line. There are also several non-medical items being requested by director Gladys Thomas, including diapers, hygiene items, office supplies, etc. Due to airline weight constraints, please contact Monica Soderstrom at 343-0565 for up-to-date needs and how to donate specific items.

There will be another team traveling to Haiti July 6-15, 2010 to provide VBS for the Children of the Orphanage.  Karla Albert will be leading Team #3 and they are still recruiting for the team.  If you are interested, please contact Karla at 345-7334.  Their first meeting will be Wednesday, May 19th at 6:30pm  at the Alberts - 2509 England St., Chico.
