F.A.Q.
Everything You Want to Know About Small Groups:
1. What is a small group? What do they do?
It’s a group of 3-12 people who meet together weekly for Bible Study, hanging out, sharing life, and praying together. We believe that meeting together as a group is the best way to grow continually in your journey with Christ. Usually our groups are either men or women, but we do have coed groups.
2. Why should I be in a small group?
God created us for community. We all need a place where we can know others and be known. A small group is that place. A great way for you to grow and stay on track with who God is calling you to be is by making a commitment to invest in the purpose and people of your group.
3. Who leads these groups?
Our groups are led by caring and fun adults who share a passion for helping college students follow Christ. Often a highlight of your group experience will be the supportive relationship with your leader.
4. When do these groups meet?
Small groups have weekly meetings at a specific day and time. Also, we encourage small groups to attend our fellowship and service events together. This is a great opportunity to have fun together and welcome new people.
5. What am I committing to by joining a small group?
Your commitment to your group is for one year; with an “off ramp” time during winter intercession or summer break (if you decide you need to make a change in your group commitment).
When you enter into a small group, you are committing to:
6. What is the process for joining a group?
1) Turn in the small group sign up form to Bonnie Johnston or the church office.
2) Our staff will assign you to a group that will be a good fit for you and your schedule. This can sometimes take a few weeks, so please be patient.
3) Once you are placed, your small group leader will contact you to let you know the details of their group (such as when and where they meet and what they are studying).
7. What if I am signing up after small groups have started?
The best time to sign up is the first two weeks of the semester. BUT, we really want to get you plugged in to a small group, so you may fill out the sign up form at any point in the semester and we will do our best to place you. However, if it is really late in the semester, we may recommend you wait until the following semester to start in a group.
8. Can I be a small group leader?
If you are a part of the congregation and want to become a small group leader, you will need to complete the small group leader application and schedule a time to talk to Chad Fransen, the College Ministry Coordinator. Small group leadership is a great way to help grow the spiritual lives of students and we’d love to equip you with helpful tools and resources.
