Scientists in Congregations
The Scientists in Congregations initiative is a grant program that is funded by the John Templeton Foundation and calls for a sustained, creative collaboration between practitioners in the fields of science (scientists or science educators) and theology / faith practice (pastors) who are already engaged with one another through shared participation in the life of a congregation.
Greg Cootsona, Associate Pastor of Adult Discipleship and College Ministries at Bidwell Presbyterian Church, was awarded the honor of heading up this grant project. BPC is the recipient of grant funds but will also award grants to other congregations nation-wide. A result of this was the expansion of our annual Science and Religion Conference. We will also be partnering with scientists in our own congregation for future classes and learning opportunities.
