ABOUT GIVING WITH STOCKS, BONDS, AND MUTUAL FUNDS
If you are a person with appreciated assets, you may want to consider transferring the assets to the church. There are tax advantages to giving appreciated securities that have been held for more than a year.
If you were to sell your securities, there would be a potential capital gains tax. However, because the church is a tax-exempt entity, giving gifts of securities to the church before you sell them would eliminate the capital gains tax. You would be able to deduct 100% of the market value of the security as a charitable contribution deduction.
These gifts can be given electronically by asking your broker to transfer them to your account. Please call Lisa Stone, our Business Administrator if you are considering such a gift. You can contact her by the calling the church office at 530-343-1484, or lstone@bidwellpres.org.
